A committee in Illinois just started paying for turnout in Alabama's Second District

You will not find it in his campaign's report. Money spent independently is reported by the committee that spends it. It never appears in the report of the candidate it helps. The filing says what it bought. Field organizing.

EVERY OTHER DOLLAR SPENT FOR HIM BOUGHT AN AD. THIS ONE DID NOT.

Outside money spent for Shomari Figures until now was advertising. Radio and digital, one hundred thousand dollars of it, from a committee in Washington. That is money spent talking to voters.

Field organizing is money spent moving them. Paid people, lists, doors, phones. It is the work of turning a supporter into a ballot that was actually cast.

Fifty-two days out, somebody in Illinois decided that is what this district needs.

WHO FILED IT

Progressive Turnout Project.

This cycle the committee has reported $889,737 in independent spending for nineteen candidates across nine states. Montana, North Carolina, Virginia, Arizona, Ohio, Wisconsin, Texas, Nebraska, and as of September 11, Alabama.

A national committee working a nine-state target list added Alabama's Second District to it on Friday. They did not add it because they think he is safe.

NONE OF IT IS ALABAMA MONEY

Every outside dollar reported for Shomari Figures this cycle, $115,235.15 of it, came from exactly two committees.

One files from Evanston, Illinois. One files from Washington, D.C.

Neither is registered in Alabama. Not one dollar of it was raised here, and none of it appears anywhere in his own campaign's report.

Friday we counted fourteen cents of every disclosed dollar he raised as Alabama money. This is the money that is not in that count at all.

WHAT IT MEANS

The general election money has started moving, and the first committee through the door is not buying ads. It is hiring organizers.

Advertising argues with a district. Field organizing counts it.

Somebody with a nine-state map looked at Alabama's Second District and decided it was worth paying people to work.

WHAT THE RECORD COVERS

Every figure above comes from independent expenditure reports filed with the Federal Election Commission for the 2026 cycle, read on September 12.

Friday's filing is a forty-eight hour notice, which a committee must file once its spending in a race passes ten thousand dollars. That threshold is the only reason this is public now instead of in October.

The campaigns' own reports, covering July through September, are due October 15. We will read them the day they post.

FIFTY-TWO DAYS

Fifty-two days until November 3.

Rhett Marques is the Republican nominee in Alabama's Second Congressional District. Shomari Figures is the incumbent.

Somebody in Illinois is now paying people to knock on doors in Dothan, Enterprise, Troy and Phenix City. Nobody is paying you.

We want this seat back. Show up.

Wall of Shame — Today: Alabama Power

Today on the Wall of Shame: the Alabama Power Employees Federal PAC (Birmingham) has put $10,000 into Rep. Shomari Figures' campaign account — $5,000 in August 2025 and $5,000 in March 2026. Figures then voted no on the GRID Power Act to fast-track reliable, dispatchable generation. Only five Democrats in the House voted yes. He was not one of them. The Wall of Shame exists for one reason — so that total stops growing. https://take2back.com/wall-of-shame.html
